My wife stated disturbing. I would say spooky. Nothing to do with Honkyoku. Many great players and virtuoso performances. The compositions are modern classical or something like that, so if you are into that sort of thing, maybe its for you. Honkyoku has an essential quality which transcends modern composition. Sometimes it may be simple compared to all that is happening here, but that is because it reflects both the meditative state and the natural world. I believe one can compose new music for the shakuhachi, original pieces, from the heart instead of the mind, and share the essence of the superior tradition which comes to us from ancient times. Watazumi could be considered no school. It is the essence which is felt in honkyoku that I seek, because in listening to such music I am filled with feelings and emotions which I relish. All I can say is its OK, not what I was looking for or expected.
